Khajuria’s ton salvages draw for JK

Talented opening batsman Shubham Khajuria scored unbeaten 109 on the way to salvage draw for JK on the last day of the Group-C Ranji trophy match against Haryana at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack on Wednesday.

J&K who were outplayed by Haryana in the whole match, needed someone to stay at the crease on the crucial last day after being forced to follow-on. The top-order batting line-up led by Khajuria responded to the situation by displaying resilient batting against some hostile Haryana bowling. The opening duo of Khajuria and Umair Nissar put on 72 runs for first wicket then the second wicket partnership between Khajuria and Pranav Gupta was off 151 runs. Umair scored 38 while as Pranav scored 80. In the second inning when both sides agreed for draw, J&K were on 249 runs for the loss of three wickets with only nine run lead. From the match Haryana earned three points on the basis of first inning lead while as J&K had to settle for one point.

For failing to impose an outright win against JK, Haryana slipped to second place on points table as Andhra Pradesh climbed to number one. J&K after another disappointing outing remained at number nine with six points.

Haryana in first inning had posted huge total of 502 runs while as J&K were bundled out for 262 runs in first innings.
